Underwater Adventures® at the Mall of America®
A Walk Under Water
The Underwater Adventures® Aquarium, a very popular attraction at the Mall of America, is the largest in Minnesota with over 1.2 million gallons of water. The Aquarium features a 300-foot long tunnel with a moving walkway traveling under 14 feet of water to simulate realistic scuba diving. There are actually four great adventures in the Aquarium, with over 4,500 living sea creatures, sharks, stingrays, moray eels, and turtles. The first adventure, Turtley Awesome Woods, is a walk though a forest filled with turtles, trout, toads, and piranhas. This exhibit includes Sea Guinness, a gigantic turtle, and Sea Brutus, a 60-year old snapping turtle, as well as Turtle Town and Softshell Suburbs.
The next adventure in the Aquarium continues in the glass tunnel through lakes, rivers, and coral reefs. You’ll discover a number of amazing things along the journey, including Shark Cove, the Mississippi river bottom, and Fisherman’s Hollow, an angler’s delightful world of fishing. Beautiful coral reefs, in every color of the rainbow, lie at the end of the tunnel. A third attraction at the Underwater Adventures Aquarium is the Seacrits Gallery, filled with every imaginable sea creature, such as sharks, clown fish, octopus, crabs, and lobsters.
Perhaps the most exciting feature at the Aquarium is Shark Cove, with real sharks that you can actually touch. It is not surprising to learn that the Underwater Adventures Aquarium was voted the best underwater shark encounter by the Discovery television channel. There are many other exotic fish at Starfish Beach, such as giant sawfish, Napoleon wrasse, and several guitarfish. These fascinating fish in their realistic surroundings are truly amazing. In addition, there is a thrilling ride you can take on “The Plunge,” a virtual submarine dive, or visit the underwater Hatchery to catch a glimpse of the Aquarium’s newest arrival of sea creatures.
The Underwater Adventures Aquarium is an attraction that everyone will enjoy, with ongoing special events, new exhibits and discoveries, and featured holiday attractions.
